I. PURPOSE
This Orde r establishes policies for the proper wearing of uniforms and equipment by sworn employees of the St.
Petersburg Police Department. Civilian personnel will dress appropriately for their assignment and maintain their
personal appearance in accordance with G.O. II -05, Personal Appearance . Uniforms may be issued to civilian personnel
based on their assignment and will be defined in the applicable Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

A. Reserve Officers – Part-time employees who perform law enforcement functions and are issued a uniform for use
in the performance of their duties. The unifor m will be worn with a name plate containing the “Reserve Officer”
designation directly under t he employee ’s names .
B. Uniform – Will refer to any of the following:
1. Cadet Uniform – Department -issued apparel worn by cadets. See Section VII of this Order.
2. Dress Uniform (Class A) – Department -issued apparel worn by sworn personnel at professional and formal
functions outside routine daily assignments. Uniform includes the long -sleeve uniform shirt, tie, uniform slacks,
and Class A cap. See Section IV of this Order.
3. Field Uniform (Cla ss B) – Department -issued apparel routinely worn by sworn personnel while performing daily
assignments. See Section V of this Order.
4. Specialized Unit Uniform (Class C) – Uniforms which may be authorized for specialized units or functions as
directed by the Chief of Police, or designee. If no uniform for the unit is specified, the field uniform will be worn.
See Section VI of this Order for a listing of Specialized Unit Uniforms.
C. Uniformed Personnel – All full -time or part -time employees who are issued a prescribed uniform for use in the
performance of their duties and who must also maintain appearance regulations described in G.O. II-05, Personal
Appearance .
D. Uniform of the Day – Attire worn by uniformed personnel as directed by the Chief of Police.
III. GENERAL REGULATIONS
A. Uniformed personnel will be provided with, and wear, the official uniform and insignia of their rank, as designated
by the Chief of Police.
B. The Uniform of the Day may be altered by order of the Chief of Police, or designee.
C. No combination of civilian clothing will be worn with the uniform, either on or off duty, except as permitted by G.O.
II-06, Take -home Vehicle Program , as detailed in this Ord er, or as authorized by the Chief of Police. Sworn
personnel working in a plain clothes capacity may wear D epartment -issued police jackets while on duty .
D. Uniformed personnel will not wear the uniform outside the City or while not wor king in a law enforcement capacity ,
except while performing a police duty or traveling to and from work, unless authorized by the Assistant Chief of their
assigned bureau .
1. Personnel commuting in a take -home vehicle are limited to those activities set forth in G.O. II -06, Take -home
Vehicle Pro gram .
2. Uniforms may be worn while traveling to and from work, including permitted or co -sponsored special event
work, scheduled training, and judicial proceedings . However, personnel are not entitled to claim travel time as
“on-duty time” unless they are required to perform a police function.
3. Personnel who commute in/on a personal vehicle/motorcycle, while wearing a uniform, will not stop to shop or
trade while enroute to or from work.
