Santa Monica Police Department Santa Monica Police Department Policy Manual Department Policies, Directives -Procedures, and Training Bulletins 201.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE Special Orders and Training Bulletins establish an interdepartmental communication that may be used by the Chief of Police to make immediate changes to policy and procedure consistent with the current Memorandum of Understanding and as permitted by Government Code § 3500 et seq. Special Orders and/or Training Bulletins will immediately modify or change and supersede sections of the Policy Manual and the Directives and Procedures Manual to which they pertain. 201.1.1 DEPARTMENTAL DIRECTIVE PROTOCOL Special Orders and/or Training Bulletins will be incorporated into these manuals as required upon approval of the Chief of Police. Special Orders and/or Training Bulletins will modify existing policies or create a new policy as appropriate and will be rescinded upon incorporation into the manual. All existing Special Orders and Training B ulletins have now been incorporated in the updated Policy Manual and Directives and Procedures Manual. 201.2 RESPONSIBILITIES 201.2.1 CHIEF OF POLICE The Chief of Police shall approve all revisions to any Department Policy Manual and Directives and Procedures Manual. 201.3 ACCEPTANCE OF DEPARTMENTAL DIRECTIVES All employees are required to read and obtain any necessary clarification of all Departmental directives in the form of Special Orders, Training Bulletins, and/or any other interdepartmental communication issu ed by the Chief of Police. All employees are required to acknowledge they have received and reviewed any new or revised Departmental directive. Signed acknowledgement forms and/or electronic receipts showing an employee's acknowledgement will be maintained by the Training Sergeant or his/her designee.
