Published with permission by Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office Post Orders - 1 Policy 110 Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office Custody Manual Post Orders 110.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE The purpose of this policy is to establish written guidelines for the development of Post Orders and the training of staff members assigned to each post. 110.2 POLICY It is the policy of the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office to develop comprehensive Post Orders for every post at each facility. Copies of the written Post Orders shall be maintained at each post or made available electronically. Staff shall have working knowledge of Post Orders before working a post. 110.3 DEVELOPMENT Post Orders will be organized to reflect each of the shifts during which the post is staffed. Post Orders will list tasks in order of priority or schedule and will be related to policies and procedures. Clear procedures should be incorporated into Post Orders for all regular daily activities including, but not limited to, safety and security equipment checks, incarcerated person counts, incarcerated person meals, Pill Call and Sick Call assessment, incarcerated person recreation time, clothing exchange, mail distribution and response to emergencies, such as fires, natural disasters, unusual activities, and criminal acts. 110.4 REVIEW AND UPDATE Each Division Commander or authorized designee will ensure that Post Orders are reviewed at least annually and updated if required. Upon approval from the Division Commander, Post Order revisions will be forwarded to the Operational Standards and Inspection Unit (OSIU) for review and compliance check. 110.5 TRAINING The Division Commander shall ensure that all staff members assigned to their division are properly trained to perform all of the duties and responsibilities described in the Post Orders. This is particularly true for fire, life -safety and the emergency response procedures that have been implemented by the Division Commander. This may include the use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) if such equipment is available and/or required by the local fire authority. All training should be documented in each staff member's training file and retained in accordance with established records retention sche dules. Training Officers will instruct all new staff members to read the Post Orders for the posts to which they are assigned.
