Published with permission by Santa Ana Police DepartmentFIREARMS PROCEDURES - 1FIREARMS PROCEDURES 3060.1 DUTY HANDGUNS Department-issued handguns are listed below: MAKE MODEL CALIBER GLOCK 21 45 CAL GLOCK 17 9mm GLOCK 30 45 ACP GLOCK 27 40 CAL 3060.2 SHOTGUNS Department-issued shotgun is listed below: MAKE MODEL CALIBER REMINGTON 870P 12 GAUGE 3060.3 PATROL RIFLES Department-issued patrol rifle is listed below: MAKE MODEL CALIBER DANIEL DEFENSE M4 RIFLE DDM4 V7 5.56 3060.4 PERSONALLY OWNED ALTERNATE DUTY FIREARMS Members desiring to carry an authorized but personally owned duty firearm must receive written approval from the Training Commander or the authorized designee. Once approved, personally owned duty firearms are subject to the following restrictions: 1.The firearm shall be in good working order and on the department list of approved firearms. (a)Authorized personally owned alternate duty firearms for uniformed assignment are: MAKE MODEL CALIBER GLOCK 21 (regular or MOS)45 ACP GLOCK 17 or 47 (regular or MOS)9 MM Staccato P (min 4-4.5lb trigger)9 MM Santa Ana Police Department Santa Ana PD Procedures Manual FIREARMS PROCEDURES Copyright Lexipol, LLC 2025/09/26, All Rights Reserved. Published with permission by Santa Ana Police DepartmentFIREARMS PROCEDURES - 2Staccato HD P4.5 (min 4-4.5lb trigger)9 MM (b)Personally owned alternate duty firearms for non-uniformed assignment must meet the following criteria: I.Manufactured by a reputable firearms manufacturer as determined by the Department's full-time Rangemaster. II.Semi-automatic pistol or double action revolver and shall not be of magnum caliber. 2.All alternate duty firearms shall be inspected, function tested, and have the trigger weight verified by the Department's full-time Rangemaster before being authorized, and after that shall be subject to function testing and verification whenever it is deemed necessary. 3.Prior to carrying the firearm, members shall qualify under range supervision and thereafter shall qualify in accordance with the department qualification schedule. Members must demonstrate proficiency, safe handling, and proper firearm function. 4.Members shall provide written notice of the make, model, color, serial number, and caliber of the firearm to the Rangemaster, who will maintain a list of the information. 3060.4.1 STACCATO PROGRAM Department members desiring to carry a Staccato P or HD P4.5 as their primary duty weapon must meet all of the above requirements in addition to the following: 1.Individually purchase all required equipment. No equipment will be provided by the Department. 2.Attend a department-approved (min 8 hours of instruction) 1911/2011 transition course at the department member's expense. 3.Pass an initial Staccato firearms qualification course administered by the Department's full-time Rangemaster. 4.Pass the Staccato firearms qualification course annually. Any department member who fails to pass the Staccato firearms qualification course shall be restricted from carrying the firearm for a minimum of 60 days. At the end of the 60 days, department members shall be allowed to retake the qualification course. 3060.5 AUTHORIZED SECONDARY (BACK-UP) HANDGUNS A handgun authorized for use on-duty as a back-up handgun. Back-up handguns may also be authorized as an off-duty handgun. Back-up handguns shall be a semi-automatic, pistol or double action revolver and shall not be of magnum caliber. Published with permission by Santa Ana Police DepartmentFIREARMS PROCEDURES - 33060.6 OFF-DUTY HANDGUNS A handgun approved for off-duty carry and use. Off-duty handguns shall be semi-automatic pistols or double action revolvers and shall not be of magnum caliber. Off-duty handguns can be approved for use as a back-up handgun if they meet the requirements defined for authorized secondary back-up handguns. 3060.7 MAINTENANCE, REPAIR, CARE AND CLEANING 1.Officers shall be held individually responsible for the proper care and cleaning of all authorized handguns, shotguns and rifles. While on duty, the authorized firearms shall at all times be in a serviceable condition, functionally clean and properly lubricated. 2.No authorized firearms shall have any accessories attached or modifications made thereto without prior approval of the Department's full-time Rangemaster/Armorer or Rangemaster permanently assigned to the Training Division. 3.It shall be the Rangemaster's responsibility to research aftermarket accessories to ensure they are of the highest quality and will not adversely affect the weapon or its performance. 4.Any such modifications will be recorded on that Handgun's Inventory/Inspection form maintained in the Range Firearms records. 5.Any Glock pistol approved for duty, back-up, or off-duty
