Published with permission by Santa Ana Police DepartmentCommunications Center Wellness Equipment Procedures - 1Communications Center Wellness Equipment Procedures 8011.1 PURPOSE This procedure provides guidelines for the use of the Communication Center's wellness equipment. Santa Ana Police Communications Center employees who are on-duty and who comply with the procedures below are approved to use this equipment. 8011.2 POLICY The use of the Communication Center's equipment is voluntary. Before using, an employee shall complete the Santa Ana Police Communications Center Waiver and Release Form and train with the Department’s designated trainer. See attachment: Treadmill waiver.pdf 8011.3 EQUIPMENT The following is currently available to be used by the Santa Ana Police Communications Center employees: 1.Desk Treadmill 8011.4 EQUIPMENT USAGE Equipment is for the use of Santa Ana Police Communications Center employees only. Family members of employees, visitors, observers, or any other non-unit employee are prohibited from using the equipment. Employees who use the equipment must follow directing of their personal physician when using exercise equipment.. The equipment may not be used while recovering from an injury or during any illness. The equipment shall only be used while an employee ison-duty, and the established guidelines shall be followed: (a)Closed-toed shoes are required to be worn while using the equipment; (b)Food is not permitted while on the walking treadmill or stationary bike. Water is permitted but must be in a container with a lid; (c)Maximum pace shall not be faster than three miles per hour on a treadmill; (d)Sixty (60) minute blocks of time should be observed considering other employees interest in the use of the equipment; (e)Equipment may not be used by a member sitting with an observer or training a probationary employee; (f)Use should not exceed an employee’s cardiovascular ability, which may impact one’s phone conversation (i.e., hard breathing); (g)A treadmill or stationary bike can only be used at a telephone position; they shall not be used at any radio position; Santa Ana Police Department Santa Ana PD Procedures Manual Communications Center Wellness Equipment Procedures Copyright Lexipol, LLC 2021/08/03, All Rights Reserved. Published with permission by Santa Ana Police DepartmentCommunications Center Wellness Equipment Procedures - 2(h)Equipment should not be used during peak workload hours, during a critical incident, or any other time its use would detract from work performance. The on-duty supervisor’s has the sole discretion as to the appropriateness of use due to workload. (i)A wireless headset must be used on a stationary bike or treadmill. Equipment must be adjusted for proper ergonomic control of the keyboard, all monitors, and mice. If the equipment is damaged or malfunctioning, a supervisor shall be notified and the equipment shall be taken out of service until rendered serviceable. Equipment shall be cleaned after each use. The undersigned her eby agrees to the following: a) It is my responsibility to ensure that I am physically able to operate the equipment. I understand that I am responsible for monitoring my ow n physical and mental condition througho ut my use of the equipment and assume the risk of such use. b) I will have become familiar with the equipment and have training prior to using the equipment. c) I understand that there are no physical exercise professionals on site. d) I agree to follow the Santa Ana Police Department's guidelines for the use of the equipment. e) I agree to watch a treadmill safety video prior to using the equipment. As a Santa Ana Police Communications Center employee , I understand that the use of the equipment is a voluntary activit y. I am under no duty to attend or be instructed by any supervisory personnel of the Santa Ana Police Department to use the equipment. The use of this equipment does not constitute the performance of any of my job duties or tasks for the Santa Ana Police Communications Center. In signing this consent form, I affirm that I have read this form in its entirety , and I understand its contents. I have read the Santa Ana Police Communications Center Policy to use the equipment and agree to abide by the guidelin es. Questions concerning the use of the equipment have been answered to my satisfaction.
