1036.1 PURPOSE
This policy defines the role of the Department's Uniform Committee.
1036.2 FUNCTION
The Committee is responsible for making recommendations to the Chief of Police regarding
standards for personal appearance and the use and type of uniforms, uniform insignias, and
Department related accessories and equipment.
1036.3 COMPOSITION OF THE COMMITTEE
(a)The Committee is composed of personnel representing all areas of the Department,
and shall be staffed as follows:
(a)Chairperson - Commander or Sergeant
(b)Investigation Bureau - One Detective
(c)Traffic Division - One Traffic Officer
(d)Patrol Division - Two Patrol Officers
(e)Administration Bureau- One Officer
(f)Non-Sworn - Two non-sworn employees (PSO, CSO & PSD)
(g)Property and Facilities Division – One employee
(h)Jail Operations Division - One Corrections Officer
(i)Information Systems Division – One employee
(j)Office of the Chief of Police – One employee
1036.4 SELECTION OF MEMBERS
The Chief of Police appoints the Chairperson. The Chairperson will request Letters of Interest
when a position on the committee becomes vacant. Each supervisor, manager and Bureau
Commander will either recommend or not recommend each potential committee member with
the final decision made by the Senior Management Team. Prior to approval at SMT, the affected
Bureau Commander will discuss his/her recommendations with the Chairperson regarding the
potential committee member. Committee members shall serve as long as they remain assigned in
a position to act as a representative as listed above. Members shall attend all committee meetings,
unless excused by the Chairman, and fully participate or be removed by the Chief of Police at the
recommendation of the Chairperson.
1036.5 FREQUENCY OF MEETINGS
The Uniform Committee shall meet as deemed appropriate by the Chairperson, or when directed
by the Chief of Police.
