332.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The Honor Guard is the official ceremonial unit of the San Luis Obispo Police Department. Its
purpose is to represent the Department and to act as a goodwill ambassador at any function its
members attend.
332.2 ORGANIZATION
(a)Officers assigned to the Honor Guard will report to their sergeant, or their designee,
who shall be of command rank and titled the Honor Guard sergeant. He/
She will be responsible for administrative functions such as budget, equipment control,
and manpower allocation.
(b)The Honor Guard sergeant may appoint a Coordinator who will be responsible for:
1.The planning and execution of all Honor Guard activities.
2.Designation of officers who shall participate in Honor Guard activities.
3.Maintaining records for the Honor Guard.
4.Maintain an acceptable level of training for all Honor Guard members and
maintain a record of attendance for determination of "active status."
(c)Officers assigned to the Honor Guard squad shall:
1.Maintain an Honor Guard dress uniform.
2.Be available to attend any or all Honor Guard activities.
3.Assist the Coordinator as needed.
332.3 GENERAL PROVISIONS
All Honor Guard assignments shall be requested through the Honor Guard Sergeant or
Coordinator.
(a)The members assigned to an event will consider it as their duty assignment for that
date.
(b)If the event is on the officer's time off, the officer will be compensated per the MOU.
(c)Prior authorized expenses incurred will be reimbursed.
(d)Each officer is expected to give a minimum two-year commitment to the program.
(e)Regular attendance is required by all members to remain on active status. The Honor
Guard is an ancillary duty, not a Special Assignment as defined per M.O.U., and
therefore not eligible for incentive pay. Membership to the Honor Guard is recognized
"At Will."

(a)Honor Guard Traditional Uniform
1.Class A Uniform
2.Issued SLOPD Hat Piece
3.Honor Guard Badge
4.The uniform will be issued specifically for Honor Guard and will not be worn as
a regular work uniform
(b)A marked unit will be assigned to the Honor Guard when an appearance is scheduled.
This will be done prior through the on-duty watch commander.
(c)The Honor Guard Coordinator will approve needed training time through the Honor
Guard Sergeant.
(d)The Honor Guard Coordinator will coordinate the implementation of the Honor Guard
to scheduled activities.
332.5 UNIFORM
(a)Once selected to the Honor Guard team new members will wear the Traditional Blue
Class A uniform for their first year in the unit. Once they have attended the mandatory
events, training, and other events, a Centennial uniform may be ordered if the team
member is in good standing with the unit by the department.
(b)The Honor Guard detail presently has three uniforms :
1.Two class "A"; one to be worn for funerals and memorial ceremonies (Traditional
Blues)
(a)The uniform consists of the following:
1.Campaign-style hat with silver cloth braid
2.Long-sleeved blue shirt with police patches
3.Silver "P" buttons
4.Blue pants
5.White accessories to include an ascot, citation cord, and name tag
on the right side,
6.White gloves, white belt with silver buckle.
(b)Traditional color guard and honor guard blue uniforms are Class A
uniforms with parade add-on purchased at GlendaleParadestore.com
2.Centennial uniform to be worn for all other ceremonial details.
(a) The uniform consists of the following:

2.Long-sleeved High Collar 5 button jacket
3.Blue pants with silver strips down the pants legs,
4.Black patent leather belt with handgun, cuff case, and magazine
holder
5.White citation cord, name tag, honor guard pins, on the right side,
and white gloves.
(b)Centennial uniforms are purchased from Neptune Uniforms, by the San
Luis Obispo Police Department. The uniforms are purchased after the
team member has completed one year of service to the unit and attended
honor guard events.
3.Training uniform to be worn at all training sessions.
(a)The training uniform consists of a regular issue of blue BDU type pants,
boots and a polo shirt. Officers shall wear a polo shirt with 'San Luis Obispo
Police HONOR GUARD in silver lettering and a badge over the left breast.
(c)Medals, ribbons and Pins when Wearing Class A or Centennial Uniforms
1.Ribbons – Shall be worn in accordance to merit and centered parallel with the
line above the left pocket flap.
2.Only three (3) police memorial or service pins will be worn centered on the right
pocket flap just above the nameplate.
