TruNarc Narcotics Analyzers
Due to the danger s associated with fentanyl and other dangerous drugs , the departme nt has recently
acquire d three TruNarc Narcotic s Analyzers, which may assist in reducing officer s’ expos ure to illicit
substance s. These new dev ices evaluate the chemical makeup of suspected narcotics and can accurately
identify narcotics, precursors, and cutting agents . The ana lyzer then generates a report that shall be
included with police reports when applicable . Screen ing for many narcotics is often able to be obtained
through clear or translucent packaging material , and test results may be generated within seconds .
As with previous Valtox an d NarcTec kits , the TruNarc system may provide “presumptive positive ” test
results for use in develo ping probable cause or ruling out potential contraband . The analyzers will be
available at the North, Central, and South statio ns and may be deployed in the field . The system is
maintained and updat ed electronically and supplies o f consumable parts may be obtained by requesting
them through the Evidence & Property Division.
