Roll Call Training Bulletin Produced by: Sgt. Charles Mantell , North POP Katherine Lester , Chief of Police Prepared by: Ofc. Nicholas Bassett , PSU Volume 24-8 Return Me Safe Program 11-13-2024 The Return Me Safe Program The Return Me Safe Program is a voluntary and confidential community resource that allows parents, guardians, or caregivers to share vital information for vulnerable community members (persons with developmental disabilities or medical conditions) who live, work, attend school, or receive treatment in the City of Sacramento. Why do we need the Return Me Safe Program? This program caters to youth and adults diagnosed with developmental, physical, or mental disabilities or any other related diagnosis where special considerations are needed. The p rogram shares those special considerations with responding officers and can provide crucial contact and medical information to meet individual needs. This information assists public safety personnel by providing preferred communication methods, suggestions for approaches, behavioral considerations, and previous wandering details. How to Register? The website for the Sacramento Police Department's (SPD) City Portal for Police related services is: Sacramento Police Department City Portal When the parent, guardian, or caretaker creates an account, they can click on the Return Me Safe portal to enter their vulnerable person’s information . They can also enter the parent(s), caretaker(s), or another responsible person's contact information and a current photograph of the vulnerable person to assist officers in locating them if they are reported missing. The SPD will not share any of the vulnerable perso n’s information with the public unless permission is given to the SPD, specifically for media dissemination. This confidential database will assist officers in appropriately responding to a call-for-service involving a vulnerable community member. To maintain the most up-to-date information, the registrant must update the information (including the high- quality photograph) every three years for continued participation in the program. Unless withdrawn beforehand, the SPD will retain the information for three years before it is purged. The Return Me Safe P rogram and associated information shall only be utilized to respond to calls for service involving the person(s) registered to promote effective interactions with them and, if applicable, return the person home or to another responsible person(s). The Return Me Safe database is a separate and secure database that is linked to RMS . When SPD personnel conduct a records check either by NAME, ADDRESS, or a VEHICLE and that records are assoc iated with a subject from Return Me Safe , a FLAG RECORD will be displayed in the record.
