Rose Cabrera Volume 73 Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center (SRFJC) Inside the Sacramento County Child Support Building, Third Floor 3701 Power Inn Road, Suite 3100 Sacramento, CA 95826 The Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center provides assistance to women, men and chi ldren who are victims of family violence and sex trafficking. The SRFJC is available for anyone who has been a victim of domestic violence, elder abuse, sexual abuse and/or human trafficking, their children, and non -offending family members. The SRFJC hel ps victims utilize a wide variety of free services that can help them navigate the restraining order process as well other services that can help them move on and escape a potentially violent living situation. Services are offered on a first - come, first -serve basis Monday -Friday from 8:30AM - 5:00 PM with no appointment needed. Victims can find safety, protection from their abuser, legal help, counseling, food, clothing, spiritual support, medical assistance, interpreter services and transportation at no cos t from the center's professionals and volunteers. Children are welcome to accompany victims while they utilize services. A Sacramento P olice Department or Sacramento County Sheriff’s Detective works out of the Center most business days. New program avai lable to patrol officers The Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center is developing a new program that can provide a great benefit to our patrol officers and the community we serve. During business hours if officers encounter victims of domestic violenc e, elder or sexual abuse that are in need of additional service s, patrol officers can transport them to the SRFJC office . Victims not wanting police to transport, staff from the SRFJC can respond to the victim and give them a ride. If officers have a vict im interested in seeking services, they should call the SRFJC at (916) 875 -4673 to inform them of the situation prior to transport. The victim can also call and self -transport if they would prefer . Restraining order applications The SRFJC also provides victims assistance with the filing of restraining order applications. This process can often take between 2 -3 hours to complete and file. Individuals seeking one are encouraged to arrive at SRFJC as early as they can , giving them the best chance of compl eting the application and getting a decision by the Court that same day. Restraining order applications are due at 2:00 PM, Monday -Friday. A judge review s the application and decides whether to grant the order . This judicial decision will be announced at 3 :45 PM. SRFJC attorneys are available at that time to review and explain the order. If an application is not finish ed by 2:00 PM, it will still be submitted, but the applicant will not get a response until 3:45 PM the following day. A person is at high est risk once a restraining order has been served to the abuser, making it critical that the victim have a safety plan in place. Rose Cabrera Volume 73 SRFJC caseworkers can help design individualized safety plans that will: • determine the safest place for the victim to stay . • assist with finding safe shelter if needed. • assist in making notifications and giving instructions to their children’s caregivers, schools, and teachers. • help to not ify th e victim’s employer if necessary. • ensure that the victim ha s a working phone to call 911 if the abuser violates the restraining order . • determine if other family members and friends need to be informed of what to do if the abuser contacts them .
