PURPOSE SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICE OF OPERATIONS 537.07 REQUEST FOR REEXAMINATION OF DRIVER 09-16-91 To establish requests for driver reexamination. POLICY To request driver reexaminations when drivers demonstrate potentially hazardous characteristics. PROCEDURE A. REQUESTS 1. When an officer encounters a situation in which they feel a driver should be reexamined by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), they shall submit a request on the form headed "Request for Reexamination of Driver". 2. The request form shall be handwritten in the field and routed to the Traffic Section by depositing it in the drop boxes along with other reports. B. REASONS Following are some reasons that might warrant a request for reexamination: 1. Defective eyesight 2. Defective hearing 3. Missing or deformed limbs (vehicle not properly equipped to compensate for the deformity) 4. History of alcoholism or mental illness 5. Epilepsy 6. Old age 7. Chronic use of medication 8. Any other valid reason that might indicate a need to be reexamined. O.O.O. 537.07 1 OF 1
