COVERING ON CALLS

To establish procedures for assisting on calls.
POLICY
That field units cover each other where officer safety demands.
PROCEDURE
A. Officers arriving at the scene of a call shall assess the situation and determine the need for
additional officers.
1. Should a single officer be able to handle the call, the officer shall advise
Communications so that other assigned officers may be returned to service.
2. If there is a need for more officers than assigned, the officer shall make the request for
cover, backup, or what is appropriately needed.
3. The officer shall advise the sector sergeant of the need for additional assistance or
equipment.
B. When an assisting officer is advised or determines assistance is not needed, the officer shall
leave immediately and return to their assigned district.
