INVESTIGATIONS - OUTSIDE CITY LIMITS

PURPOSE
The purpose of this order is to establish procedures for investigations conducted outside of the Sacramento
Police Department’s jurisdiction.
POLICY
It shall be the policy of the Sacramento Police Department to notify other law enforcement jurisdictions
prior to entering another jurisdiction to conduct any official police business.
PROCEDURE
A. Prior to entering another jurisdiction, detectives shall:
1. Make contact personally or have SPD Communications Center call that agency's
Communication Center prior to conducting any official police business in their jurisdiction.
2. Explain their purpose, intent, and request assistance if needed by the allied agency.
B. Prior to leaving the City of Sacramento detectives shall:
1. Make up the appropriate call via Versadex or contact the SPD Communications Center and
advise them to enter a call providing them with:
a. location of the call.
b. type of call.
c. specific details of the call (suspect description, vehicle description, follow- up with witness,
etc.)
d. which allied agency was notified.
2. Make appropriate unit supervisor notifications and if not available, advise the closest district
supervisor.
3. Notify the Watch Commander regarding any undercover operations, surveillance, attempt pick-
ups, arrests of suspects, parole/probation searches and any arrest and/or search warrant
service.
4. Once the call has concluded:
a. clear the call via the SPD Communications Center or via Versadex with the appropriate
call clearance code and you have returned to the City limits.
b. advise the outside agency’s Communication Center that you have cleared their jurisdiction
and provide them any inform ation that may relevant such as arrestee information or
outstanding suspects.
