INVESTIGATION OF MILITARY PERSONNEL

To establish procedures for requesting assistance from US Department of Defense (DOD) and US Military
Investigative Services.
POLICY
To cooperate with and request assistance from US DOD, Department of the Army, Department of the Navy,
Department of the Air Force, and Department of Homeland Security during investigations which
involve military personnel.
PROCEDURE
A. DEFINITIONS
1. Military personnel include service members on active duty, service members of the Reserve
component, and service members with the National Guard.
2. The Department of the Navy investigative branch is the Navy Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).
NCIS investigate service members affiliated with the US Navy and US Marine Corps.
3. The Department of the Army investigative branch is the Criminal Investigative Division (CID). CID
investigates service members affiliated with the US Army and National Guard.
4. The Department of the Air Force investigative branch is the Air Force Office of Special
Investigations (AFOSI).
5. Department of Homeland Security (US Coast Guard) investigative branch is the Coast Guard
Investigative Service (CGIS).
B. GENERAL
Immediate assistance can be rendered to the investigator in verifying status, confirming
identification, providing background information and furnishing other data regarding
DOD and US Military Service Members by contacting the following agencies:
