538.03 THREATS TO PUBLIC OFFICIALS 3-19-20 PURPOSE The purpose of this order is to establish procedures for threats received against public officials. POLICY It shall be the policy of the Sacramento Police Department to assist the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in their mandated investigation of threats toward certain public officials and may, at the direction of the Chief of Police, conduct a simultaneous investigation. PROCEDURE A. GENERAL 1. Whenever the Office of Investigations (OOI) receives a report of a threat against any person set forth in Penal Code Section 76, it shall be routed to the Felony Assaults Unit which has the investigative responsibility. 2. The Felony Assaults Unit will assign cases out to detectives or will transfer the investigation to the Office of the Chief, Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) for assignment. 3. A copy of the report shall be sent to: a. California Highway Patrol (CHP) Threat Assessment Unit Dignitary Protection Section 1801 9th St Sacramento, CA 95811 Phone: (916) 341-4720 Email: tau@chp.ca.gov b.
