PURPOSE SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICE OF INVESTIGATIONS 527.05 RELEASE ON BAIL OR O.R. 09-16-91 To establish procedures for request of release on bail or own recognizance (O.R.). POLICY To seek reduction in bail or the release on one's own recognizance (O.R.) of a person who has been arrested when there is an advantage to the department and a legitimate interest in the subject. PROCEDURE A. REQUEST FOR RELEASE 1. An investigator shall not seek a bail reduction or the O.R. release of any subject being processed by another division, section, or unit without first consulting with the commander of that division, section or unit. 2. Any attempt to gain a subject's release under these circumstances shall be approved by that Division/Section Commander, Captain or Office Chief. B. CONTACT 1. During normal working hours an investigator wishing to arrange a release shall contact the Felony Intake Deputy District Attorney (DA) and explain why such a release is being sought. 2. At other times the on-call Deputy DA shall be contacted. 3. The DA's office shall make all contacts with the court. O.O.I. 527.05 1 OF 1
