SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDERS GO 535.03 Page 1 of 1 535.03 COMMUNITY RELEASE BOARD LETTERS 07-26-17 PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to establish procedures to reasonably assess the potential danger or impact of individuals to be released on parole in our community. POLICY It shall be the policy of the Sacramento Police Department to ensure parolees are adequately screened prior to release in our community. PROCEDURE GENERAL A. All parole hearing notices pursuant to Penal Code § 3041, 3041.6, 3042, and 1170.2(b), shall be forwarded to the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU), Office of the Chief (OOC). B. The CIU shall 1. Review the cases of potential life prisoner parole and extended term hearings. 2. Present to the Captain, OOC, recommendati ons as to whether or not a letter protesting the release of the parolee should be initiated. C. The Captain, OOC, shall present to the Chief of Police (COP) his recommendations on the parole hearing notice. 1. All letters directed to the Community Release Board shall be written with the personal knowledge of the content of the case and under the signature of the COP. 2. All cases shall be filed and maintained by the CIU.
