SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDERS GO 532.12 Page 1 of 1 532.12 REQUESTING DETECTIVES 04-14-17 PURPOSE The purpose of this order is to establish procedures for requesting detectives. POLICY It shall be the policy of the Sacramento Po lice Department to ensure that detectives respond to major incidents, incidents involving suspicious circumstances , and major crime scenes. PROCEDURE A. DEFINITION 1. ON-CALL STATUS – Available to respond without delay as directed by a supervisor. 2. CALL -BACK STATUS – When a detective is called back to work from another location prior to the start of his/her next regularly scheduled shift. B. GENERAL 1. Supervisors may request that detectives be called to respond to major incidents, incidents involving suspicious circumstanc es, and major crime scenes when appropriate. 2. Field supervisors shall contact the appropriate unit supervisor within the Office of Investigations (OOI) to request assistance. 3. Detective supervisors shall first consider on -duty detectives assigned to the appr opriate unit for response to a request for assistance. 4. Detectives, while "on -call", shall a. Be properly equipped for plain clothes duty. b. Ensure that they can be contacted by telephone. c. Be available to respond directly to the location assigned. d. Not drink alco holic beverages. C. REQUESTING OFF -DUTY OOI PERSONNEL 1. A system shall exist whereby specified off -duty detectives and/or sergeants can be contacted to report to work. 2. On-call a. Detectives and/or sergeants assigned to the OOI shall be placed on 24 -hour “on -call” status at the direction of the appropriate division lieutenant. b. The initial request for on -call detectives shall be placed to the on -call sergeant of the appropriate OOI Unit. If the on -call sergeant cannot be contacte d, the request shall be directed to the division lieutenant. c. "On-call" status shall begin at the end of the employee’s regularly scheduled work day and shall end when the employee reports to work at the beginning of his/her next regularly scheduled work da y. 3. Re-call a. Detectives from any other units in OOI may be called in to work ("re -call") to meet specified needs when an OOI supervisor deems it necessary. b. Detectives assigned to units who are not designated as "on -call" may be called back to work in the ord er in which they appear on the Versadex on -call list. c. Detectives assigned to units not designated as “on -call” in the Versadex on -call list may be asked to return to work by telephone by the sergeant, lieutenant , or captain of the appropriate division or u nit.
