SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDERS GO 532.10 Page 1 of 1 532.10 BANK ROBBERY 07-21-17 PURPOSE The purpose of this order is to define responsibilities for the response to and the investigation of bank robberies. POLICY It shall be the policy of the Sacramento Police Department (SPD) to conduct a complete initial investigation at the scene of all reported bank robberies, including those that are federally insured, and to facilitate the prosecution of defendants arrested f or bank robbery. PROCEDURE A.DEFINITION BANK – Any financial institution receiving deposits, including savings and loan institutions and credit unions. B.GENERAL 1.The SPD shall investigate all bank robberies. 2.The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) shares j urisdiction for investigating robberies of federally insured institutions, but may not exercise its jurisdiction when the offense fails to meet its minimum investigative requirements. C.RESPONSE 1. shall be dispatched to the scene and the district sergeant shall be notified. 2.The first officer to arrive shall a.Be in charge until relieved by the primary responding unit. b. 3. 4. 5. D.SCENE MANAGEMENT 1.Officers shall preserve the crime scene, 2.Primary responding officers shall conduct a preliminary investigation and complete a full General Offense report. 3.The SPD shall collect and process all physical evidence from the scene, including surveillance photos/videos. 4.Responding officers shall check the area and conduct any immediate follow-up required. 5.The District Sergeant shall confirm that the appropriate Neighborhood Crimes Unit (NCU) is notified of all bank robberies that occur Monday through Friday between 0700 - 1700 hours. 6.Detectives shall have primary responsibility for conducting follow-up on any immediate suspect leads developed at the scene. 7.The NCU Sergeant or designee shall serve as the SPD liaison with the FBI to facilitate a coordinated federal and local investigation.
