SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDERS GO 531.06 Page 1 of 1 531.06 STOLEN VEHICLE TRACKING SYSTEM 03-31-17 PURPOSE The purpose of this order is to establish procedures for responding to LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System activations and to implement a coordinated response. POLICY It shall be the policy of the Sacramento Police Department to utilize the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System to facilitate the safe apprehension of suspects and the rapid recovery of property. PROCEDURE A. GENERAL - The LoJack System will be implemented within the Office of Operations , the Communications Division, and the Detective Division in coordination with surrounding law enforcement agencies. B. LOJACK SYSTEM 1. System Confidentiality a. Employees may tell suspect s how they were located or discuss the LoJack System in their presence. b. Employees may discuss the LoJack System with the media and the public. 2. All training shall be conducted by Department personnel and shall consist of watching the Department's LoJack training video. 3. It shall be the responsibility of the Watch Commander to ensure the maximum deployment of LoJack System equipment with the least possible disruption of normal operations within the Office of Operations. C. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Officers assigned to vehicles equipped with LoJack System monitoring equipment shall a. Monitor LoJack System displays. b. Notify the Communications Center immediately upon receipt of a LoJack System signal and provide t he displayed LoJack System code. c. Respond, if available, to Lo Jack System activations as assign ed by the Communications Center. d. Track LoJack System activations, make arrests, and recover property . e. Ensure that the stolen vehicle is removed from the Stolen Vehicle System and that the LoJack System’s activation has been terminated and reset prior to towing or releasing the vehicle. 2. The Communications Center shall a. Query LoJack System vehicle information ut ilizing the designated CAD mask. b. Create active incidents utilizing the applican t’s LoJack System type code. c. Make an al l-zone broadcast including all available information upon the receipt of an activation signal reported by a unit equipped with the LoJack System. 3. The Police Department’s Fleet Manager shall function as the liaison with the LoJack Corporation concerning the maintenance, repair or replacement of LoJack System equipment.
