Departmental Memorandum2024 - 1420Ballistic Shields

Sacramento Police Department

Policy Text
Departmental Memorandum Volum e 24-14 To: All Police Katherine Lester , Chief of Police From: Captain Brent Kaneyuki, Metro Division Ballistic Shields 10-16-2024 In 2018, the Sacramento Police Department purchased 210 ballistic shields to improve officer safety. Like ballistic vests, the shields have a five- year lifespan and are now expired. To maintain the highest level of officer safety, new shields were ordered and now ready for use. To assure the integrity and availability of these new shields, a new process for deployment has been created. Each patrol station has been stocked with 30 shields in the following locations: • WJKPF armory. • 300R roll call briefing room. • JERPF central cubicles. Sergeants should ensure that officers check out shields at the beginning of watch and then return them at the end of watch using the appropriate QR codes (e.g., check in and check out). Officers should use their department -issued smartphones to complete the check in and check out process: 1. Scan the appropriate QR code. 2. Respond to three questions: 1. Patrol station? 2. Shield number? 3. Unit identifier?
