PROPERTY TAG
The purpose of this order is to d escribe the procedures used to complete the property
tag. I. Usage
A preprinted property tag shall be completed and attached to an y property that is
too large to fit into an evidenc e container. A property tag als o shall be attached to
any gun that is booked into the Property Warehouse.
II. Procedure
A. Front Side:
1. Date: Indicate the date the pr operty is placed into an evide nce
locker.
2. Report No.: Sacramento Sheri ff’s Department report number.
3. Name: The name of the person from which the property was tak en.
4. Charge: Cite the appropriate code section; i.e., 459PC, 1137 8H&S,
etc.
5. Item #: The item number from the Property Receipt/Report.
6. Officer: The name of the o fficer(s) booking the property.
7. Remarks: This area is to be used for additional information that
may assist the Property Warehouse ; i.e., victim of the crime, o wner
of the property, s uspect(s), etc.
B. Reverse Side:
1. The reverse side of the pr operty tag has five categories wi th check
blocks. Mark only one box. See categories below.
a. Recovered/Stolen: That proper ty known by the officer to be
stolen and the victim identified.

b. Evidence: Property of evidentia l value in a case in which an
arrest or crime report has been made.
c. Contraband: Property that i s illegal to own or possess and
that will not be used as evidence.
d. Safekeeping: Property acc epted/taken into temporary
custody for known owner. Not of evidential value.
e. Found: Property which has been found by a citizen or an
officer and is not of evidential value.

Property which is or may be of e vidential value, but not yet co nnected
with any specific crime report or arrest.
□ FOUND PROPERTY – HOLD FOR OWNER
Property which has been found by a citizen or an officer which is not of
evidential value.
□ PERSONAL PROPERTY
An arrestee’s personal property, not of evidential value, booke d for
safekeeping at the time of, o r subsequent to, the arrest.
□ SAFEKEEPING
Property not coming within any o f the above classifications whi ch is
accepted for temporary safekeeping O V E R
