MONEY ENVELOPE
A money envelope s hall be used when booki ng any US and/or forei gn currency, bonds,
coin and/or negotiable securities. I. Booking Money
A. All money shall be counted and verified by a minimum of two officers.
B. All money shall be sealed in a Kapac plastic envelope following the correct
procedures for processing a Kapac envelope. Note : Do not use the Kapac
plastic envelope proce ss if the currency is wet or is to be sub mitted to the
ID Bureau for processing.
C. The Kapac plastic envelope containing t he money shall be placed inside a
completed Money Envelope.
D. A completed Property Receip t/Report or photocopy of same sha ll be
attached to the money envelope and placed in the safe located i n the
Property Room.
II. Money Envelope
A. Type of Crime: Cite th e appropriate code section.
B. Case No: Indicate the Sacram ento Sheriff’s Report Number.
C. Date: The date the envelope is placed in the property safe.
D. Amount: The monetary value o f the items in the envelope (cou nt foreign
currency in the amount s how on each bill/coin).
E. Victim: Victim of the crime.
F. Address: Address of the victim.
G. Suspect(s)/Arrestee(s): Indica te all suspect(s)/arrestee(s) involved in the
crime.
H. Officer Counting Money/B adge Number: Self explanatory.

I. Officer Verifying Count/Badge Number: Self explanatory.
J. Officer Sealing and Initiali ng Envelope: The officer sealing the money
envelope shall initia l or sign his/her nam e across the sealed flap and print
his/her name and badge num ber in this area.
K. Place the item number from t he Property Receipt/Report in th e top left
corner of the envelope.
