Tactical Alert System
The purpose of the Tactical Alert Notification is to expedite the staging, organization,
and deployment of on or off duty personnel to an anticipated or existing emergency
event expected to span beyond the resource capabilities of the affected Division or
Service Area.
I. Definition
A Tactical Alert is the preliminary step to personnel mobilization and is a state of
readiness during which all personnel placed on alert are notified of temporary, but
immediate, changes to shift hours and/or days off due to an emergency, event , or
situation .
II. Policy
A. Tactical Alerts are not designed to be used for normal day -to-day
assistance calls between Area s and Divisions. Rather, Tactical Alerts
shall only be ordered for events or situations that span or are expected to
span beyond the resource capabilities of the affected Division or Area.
1. Tactical Alerts may be initiated at the direction of the Field and
Investigative Services Chief Deputy, Undersheriff, or Sheriff.
2. Tactical Alerts shall utilize the Everbridge Alert and Notification
System to notify affected personnel.
3. The Tactical Alert’s primary function is to notify Patrol Divisions of
anticipated emergencies, events, or situations ; however, it may be
directe d to all Field and Investigative Services personnel.
4. The Tactical Alert notification shall be comprise d of language
approved by the Field and Investigative Services Chief Deputy as
illustrated in the “Tactical Alerts Notification” section.
III. Procedures
A. The Field and Investigative Services Chief Deputy , Undersheriff, Sheriff or
their designee can authorize a Tactical Alert to be initiated.

Communications Supervisor . The on -duty Communications Supervisor
shall send the a lert utilizing the Everbridge Alert and Notification System.
IV. Tactical Alert Notifications
A. Type 1 Tac Alert: Immediate implementa tion of 12 -hour shifts with no days
off. Training and pre -approved discretionary time off is canceled.
Approved annual vacation is not affected.
1. **Type 1 TAC ALERT** Effective immediately, SSO patrol divisions
are placed on full t actical alert. 12-hour shifts are implemented with
all days off canceled : Dayshift : 0600 -1800 , Swingshift : 1500 -0300,
Nightshift : 1800 -0600. Pre -approved time off is canceled.
Previously scheduled training is canceled. You will receive an
additional notification at the conclus ion of this alert.

D. Type 4 “Modified” Tac Alert: Immediate implementation of 12 -hour shifts
with normal days off continued . Training and pre-approved time off is not
canceled.
1. **Type 4 TAC ALERT** Ef fective immediately, SSO patrol divisions
are placed on full t actical alert. 12-hour shifts are implemented with
regular days off: Dayshift : 0600 -1800 , Swing shift : 1500 -0300,
Nightshift : 1800 -0600. Pre -approved time off is authorized.
Previously schedul ed training is not canceled . You will receive an
additional notification a t the conclusion of this alert.

E. Event Conclusion: Cancellation of Tactical Alert and a return to normal
shift hours and/or days off .
