Payment of Fines
The purpose of this Order is to p rovide guidelines for converti ng time back to original
fine amounts. Applicants and par ticipants may choose to pay th e fine in lieu of serving
time on a Work P roject Program.
I. Policy Statement
An applicant, who is recommended fo r participation in some Work Project Programs,
may choose to pay the fine rather than serve time . When this r equest is made, the
amount to be paid is computed by a booking officer.
Payment by the applicant at the Work Release Facility fulfills their appearance
requirement as ordered by the co urt, and excuses further respon sibility for the offense,
unless otherwise ordered. II. Applicant Wishes to Pay Fine in Lieu of Time
A. When an participate reports to t he Work Project Division and declares that
payment of the court ordered fine is preferable to serving time on a
program, this process is followed:

2 Bookin g Office rChecks JIMS for outstandin g warrant (s).
3 Booking Officer Outstanding warrant(s) must be cleared
before proceedin g.
4 Booking Officer Checks jail commitment fine amount
against fine amount in JIMS. Applicant
pays larger amount.
5 Booking Officer Advises cashier of the total amount
applicant must pay.
6 Applicant Pa ys fine to cashie r
7 Cashier Provides receipt to applicant and
duplicate and copy of order to booking
officer.
8 Booking Officer Makes appropriate entries in JIMS to
clear jail commitment as “paid fine” and
gives cashier co py of JIMS PF11.
9 Booking Officer or
Cashier Gives copies of all paperwork to Senior
Records Specialist to process paperwork
and transfer of payment to court.

Work Release-Collections III. Participant Wishes to Pay Fine on Remaining Sentence
A. The participant is responsib le to pay the entire amount of t he court fine. If
time was served on a Work Proje ct program and/or participant pa id
towards the days, he/she is st ill responsible to pay the entire amount, in
full. Once the account is audit ed, if participant is entitled to a refund, it
will be issued by the Wo rk Release Division.
B. The officer who quotes the fi ne amount is responsible for th e appropriate
annotations in JIMS.
IV. Acceptable Payment
A. Payment must be made by:
1. Certified check 2. ATM 3. Credit Card 4. Money order or 5. Cash
V. Accounting for Fine
A. The fine amount will be transfe rred to the court via the “De posit Permit”
process by the Senior Sheriff R ecords Specialist after receivin g the proper
information from all parties. A c ourt transmittal form must al so be
prepared.
