TYPE OF PROPERTY BOOKED
The purpose of this order is to d escribe the type of property b ooked by the Sacramento
Sheriff’s Department. I. Types of Property Booked
A. There are six categories of p roperty booked. They are as fol lows:
1. Recovered stolen 2. Evidence 3. Search warrant evidence 4. Contraband 5. Safekeeping 6. Found
B. Recovered stolen property is that property known by the offi cers to be
stolen, victim identified, and i mmediately releasable (crime re port
optional).
C. Evidence is property of evident ial value in a case in which an arrest or
crime report has been made (crime report required).
D. Search warrant evidence is pr operty of evidential value take n by a search
warrant in a case in which an a rrest or crime report has been m ade.
Officers are to submit to the Pr operty Bureau a signed copy of the search
warrant return with the property.
E. Contraband is an item tha t is illegal to own or possess and will not be
used as evidence (no cr ime report required).
F. Safekeeping is property accept ed/taken by an officer into te mporary
custody for a known owner. Safek eeping property is not of evide ntial value
(crime report optional).

G. Found property is property w hich has been found by a citizen or an officer
and is not of evidential value (no crime report required).
