Property Bureau Page 1 of 5 52/00.0 (REV 2/96) PROPERTY TRANSPOR TATION DETAIL The purpose of this order is to establish the procedures to be used by property officers for the retrieval of property f rom evidence lockers and safes, field collections, and bicycle pickups. I. Property Collection A. A property officer will pick up property that has been booke d into the various evidence lockers and safes. B. The property transportation o fficer is also responsible for the pick up and delivery of certain paperwork. T he transportation routine inclu des: 1. Delivery of mail to the mailroom or to Greyhound. 2. Delivery and pick up of paperwork from the Technical Service s administrative and Records bureaus. 3. Delivery of property paperwork to various Centralized Invest igations bureaus. C. The property transportation officer will ensure the property is secure or under their direction at all time s. The transportation vehicle will remain locked unless the property officer is in attendance. D. A small locker at each loca tion will be used by the Property Bureau for the storage of necessary supplies; i.e., pens, stapler, staples, ru bber gloves, etc. The property officer assigned to the transportation detail will assure these supplies are replenished. E. The property transportation o fficer will wear disposable rub ber gloves while handling any property that i s labeled hazardous or that t he officer determines might be hazardous to their health. F. The property transportation o fficer will carry a respirator whenever chemicals are transported. Property Bureau Page 2 of 5 52/00.0 (REV 2/96) G. The property transportation offi cer shall verify all firearm s are unloaded prior to transporting. The only ex ception is a gun that is pack aged correctly (refer to Operations Or der 53/01.0) and labeled for d elivery to the Sheriff’s ID Bureau. H. The property transportation officer will determine if proper ty has been booked into the evidence lockers and safes correctly. The prope rty transportation officer will not accept property that: 1. Does not have a completed pr operty receipt/report attached. Note : money, narcotics, and firearms may have their own property rece ipt report form. 2. Does not have a report number assigned. 3. Is a loaded firearm. 4. Contains flammable, bulk chemic als, or explosives (refer to Operations Order 53/01.0). 5. Is infectious (refer to Operations Order 53/01.0). 6. Is by definition a vehicle (refer to Operations Order 53/01. 0). 7. Is packaged incorrectly (refer to Operations Order 53/01.0). 8. Is inmate personal property. I. Property other than narcotics and money that is refused by t he property transportation officer shall be pl aced in the “problem locker.” The “problem” log will be completed by the transportation officer. The transportation officer will then turn over the yellow copy of t he property receipt/report (if available) to t he designated authority and o btain their signature on the problem log. J. Money and/or narcotics that a re refused by the property tran sportation officer shall be left in the sa fe. The safe log will be annotat ed and the problem log completed. The tran sportation officer will then tur n over the yellow copy of the property rec eipt/report (if available) to th e designated authority and obtain their si gnature on the problem log. II. Property Deliveries A. Property collected by the tr ansportation officer will be pro cessed by the Property Bureau prior to any form of release. B. Property requiring work by t he District Attorney’s crime lab will be delivered and picked up by a proper ty transportation officer. D eliveries to and collection from this loca tion will be made daily, Monday th rough Friday, except holidays. D. Property will be pi cked up at the Sacram ento County Coroner’ s office on an as-needed basis. III. Field Collections A. Under special circumstances it may be necessary to receive p roperty directly into the Property War ehouse or provide a property vehi cle for transportation of property in the field. Between 0730 and 1800 hours, Monday through Friday, the Property Bureau may be contacted dir ectly. At all other times, the requesting o fficer must contact the Commun ications Center. B. The Communications Center wil l contact a property officer at home if the request is received during non-wo rking hours. The Property Bure au supervisor will provide Communi cations with the name, phone num ber, and order of call-out for each reco rds officer assigned to the Property Bureau. C. The property officer receivi ng the call-out will request tha t Communications obtain the follo wing information from the reques ting officer: 1. Location of requesting offi cer including address and map coordinates. 2. Name and division/bureau of requesting officer. 3. Description of the property to be transported including size , weight, and quantity. 4. Estimated time the requesti ng officer will be ready to load and transport property. a. The property receipt
