PROPERTY BUREAU AUDITS
The purpose of this order is to describe the audits that monito r the accountability of the
Property Bureau. I. General
A. The public provides a conti nuous audit by their spontaneous request for
the return of property.
B. Sheriff’s Department personnel and personnel from the Distri ct Attorney’s
Office request property routinely . This results in a continuous audit.
C. The property supervisor randomly verifies the accuracy of th e booking
procedures on a monthly basis.
D. The captain or executive lie utenant of Technical Services wi ll initiate a
minimum of one general audit per year.
1. These audits are to be conduc ted by someone other than prope rty
personnel.
2. Property reports for audit are to be selected randomly from Records
Bureau files.
E. The Auditor’s Office conducts a complete audit of the Proper ty Bureau
every three years.
1. Audit procedures are determi ned by the Auditor’s Office in
accordance with their policies.
II. Money
A. The captain or executive lie utenant of Technical Services wi ll initiate a
minimum of one audit annually specifically on money.
III. Narcotics
A. The captain or executive lie utenant of Technical Services wi ll initiate a
minimum of one audit annually spe cifically on narcotics.
