Property Bureau Page 1 of 2 50/04.0 (REV 9/99) TARDINESS The purpose of this order is to e stablish guidelines for docume nting unauthorized tardiness. I. Policy A. All employees are expected to be at the Property Bureau, in uniform (if applicable), and in their assigned positions prepared to work a t the start of their scheduled shift. B. Employees’ time will be verif ied by the lunch room door read er. All employees are required to place their card against the card rea der at the lunch room door as they enter for their shift. This procedure i s to be completed even if the door is already open or is being opened f or the employee. II. Procedure A. An employee who reports late for work and has not previously arranged for time off with the superviso r may be required to provide an explanation for their tardiness to the super visor, in writing, on an inter- department correspondence (IDC). B. Employees who are late for any reason two or more times in a pay period will have such occurrences documented as a tardy incident. Empl oyees documented as being tardy four o r more times within six pay per iods will have these events documented as a tardy incident. C. The documentation of a tardy incident will include an IDC fr om the employee to the supervisor explai ning the reasons for the tardi ness. This documentation shall remain in t he employee’s work file for 12 m onths. D. An employee who has three doc umented tardy incidents within 12 months may be subject to disciplinary action. III. Attendance Records A. The supervisor shall record a ll incidents of tardiness in or ange ink on the employee’s attendance record at the end of each pay period. I. Attendance A. All employees shall report to w ork on time appropriately att ired for duty. B. If unable to report for duty as assigned, the employee shall notify the property supervisor at least one hour prior to the beginning of the shift. C. Requests for time off shall be submitted in advance to the p roperty supervisor. Such time off is not authorized or approved until t he request form has been signed by the appropr iate supervisor and returned to the employee. II. Attire A. All personnel who receive a cl othing allowance shall wear th eir prescribed attire. The division commander may exempt an employee from thi s requirement for good cause. B. Employees will comply with department grooming standards and the provisions of the department uniform and equipment manual. C. Uniforms shall not be worn w hile visible to the public when commuting to and from the work site. D. Personnel and volunteers not w earing a uniform of their voca tion or profession shall be attired in a neat businesslike fashion. E. Personnel and volunteers sha ll wear shoes with a non-skid so le. F. Each department employee who re ceives a clothing allowance o r clothing issue shall be inspected semi- annually by their immediate super visor. G. The results of such inspecti ons and any needed corrections w ill be recorded and filed in the employee’s personnel file.
