Sentence Computation
The purpose of this Order is to standardize the policy regardin g computing commitment
time at the Main Jail and at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center (RCCC).
I. General Rules
A. Per California Penal Code 669, all sentences of time are concurrent
unless otherwise stated in the court commitment.
B. The court must specify prior time served which was not conse cutive to the
current custody status, in accordance with California Penal Code 2900.5.
C. A prisoner who escapes from custody will lose all accrued go od time.
Upon return to custody, the pris oner may begin earning good tim e and
work time. A copy of the discip linary report must state the rea sons for loss
of time due to a disciplinar y hearing. The report should be pr ovided to
booking records officers for entry into the Jail Information Ma nagement
System (JIMS).
D. Credit for time served will be given, except where the time to be served is
for violation of probation or fo r Sheriff’s Parole. Good time and work time
will be credited to the prisoner ’s sentence in accordance with California
Penal Code 4019 .
E. Accelerated release time to relieve overcrowding will be giv en in
accordance with California Penal Code 4042.1 . The Sheriff, at the request
of the Division Commander, may appl y to the Presiding Judge of the
Municipal or Superior Court to rec eive authorization for a peri od of thirty
(30) days to utilize ac celerated releases.
1. One (1) day is given for each ten (10) days of sentence, not to
exceed 10% of original sentenc e prior to other credits.
2. Where a portion of the sentenc e is suspended, only the balan ce to
be served is eligible for accelerated credits.
