Page 1 of 2 24/01 (REV 3/19) GENERAL ORDER Sheriff’s Mounted Enforcem ent Detail (Collateral) The purpose of this general order is to establish policy for as signment, training, and operation of this department’s Mo unted Enforcement Detail (Coll ateral). I. General The Mounted Enforcement Detail (c ollateral) is comprised of reg ular and reserve sworn officers having primary assignments elsewhere in this dep artment. The detail shall be called out for training or special enforcement as an e lement of Field and Investigative Services. II. Required Qualifications A. Officers shall meet the experie nce criteria as set by the Ch ief Deputy of Field and Investigative Services. B. Officers serve with the approv al of their Division Commander . C. Officers shall have comple ted the department’s P.O.S.T. appr oved mounted patrol training course. D. Officers shall provide and main tain a horse meeting departme nt standards for conformation, perfo rmance, and in-service traini ng. E. Officers shall have a signed current departmental horse leas e agreement. III. Deployment A. The Chief Deputy of Field and Investigative Services shall a ppoint a sergeant or above as the Mounted Enforcem ent Detail (collateral) coordin ator. 1. The coordinator s hall be a working me mber of the detail. 2. Call-outs for trai ning or enforcement shall be through the c oordinator or his/her designee. 3. The coordinator shall report to the Field and Investigative Services chain of command. Page 2 of 2 24/01 (REV 3/19) B. When deployed, the Mounted Enforc ement Detail (collateral) s hall be under the command of the coordinat or. In the event senior offi cer’s members of the detail are pres ent, the coordinator shall comman d under the authority of the senior officer. IV. Budget A. The Mounted Enforcement Deta il (collateral) coordinator shal l prepare and control the budget for the unit exc epting officers’ salaries. B. Salaries and overtime for det ail members shall remain in the ir regular budget unit. C. Overtime may be paid only dur ing a call-out or special event with the prior approval of the Chief Deputy of Field and Investigative Service s. D. All training associated with the Mounted Enforcement Detail (collateral) shall be on a voluntar y basis without the ex pectation of moneta ry compensation. Compensatory Time Off is authorized upon approval of the coordinator. E. County owned equipmen t belonging to the det ail shall be stor ed in the appropriate Division wi thin Field and Investigative Services.
