Court and Security Services – Ai rport Division Page 1 of 2 203/02 (REV 04/08) Vehicle Towing The purpose of this Order is to establish policy and procedure for towing citizens’ vehicles. I. General Towing service will be provided by the Airport’s contracted tow ing service. Vehicles are towed per authorizat ion of Sacramento County Code 10.52.040 coupled with the original violation section. II. Criteria The criterion for towing vehicl es is not absolute and therefore , consideration must be given to the nature of the viol ation, location, problems cau sed by the violation and the overall traffic problem o f the facility. These vary wit h time of the day, week, and year. III. Reports A. Officers authorizing a vehicle to be towed must complete a C HP 180 Report with an attached narrative detailing the circumstances a nd justifying the tow-away . All pertinent information wil l then be telephoned to the Sheriff's Communications Division for a report number. B. When the storage of a vehicle is the result of criminal acti on where the California Vehicle Code author izes the impoundment of the vehic le or the vehicle possesses an evidentiary value, an Impound Hold may be placed on the vehicle and the vehicle is normally not to be released t o the owner until the Hold has bee n removed by the Sheriff’s Towing Bureau or Investigations Bureau. The Sher iff's Communications Section wil l be requested to dispatch a rotati onal tow company for any stolen v ehicle recoveries. Officers m ay make field releases when applicable co nditions exist; however, the stolen status shall be removed from the aut omated system prior to the physical surre nder of the vehicle to its la wful owner. Private Property Towing Towing from airport and hotel par king lots is a private propert y tow and proper California Vehicle Code authority must exist before officers wo uld be authorized to tow a vehicle from those locations.
