Live Scan Bureau Page 1 of 2 2/01.3 (Rev 9/12) DNA and Print Unit/Court House The purpose of this Order is to describe the DNA Unit/Court Hou se position, and the responsibilities of the location. I. Unit Description The DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) Unit is located at the Superior Court House at 720 9th Street. The DNA Unit’s primary function is to confirm the ide ntity of the convicted felon and the felon qualifies for mandatory DNA sampl es, flat palm prints, writer’s palm prints and thumb print collection pursuan t to Proposition 69, (DNA Fingerprint, Unsolved Crim e and Innocence Protection Act e ffective November 3, 2004), and to ensure those that qualify; give a qua lity sample. II. Chain of Command The DNA Unit at the Court House s hall fall under the supervisio n of the Live Scan Manager assigned to t he Live Scan Bureau. III. Availability The DNA Unit will be open during court hours , 9:00 AM to 4:00 P M, weekdays Monday through Friday, closing on Sacramento County and Court r ecognized holiday and weekends. IV, Responsibilities A. The DNA Unit will co llect the necessary paperwork provided b y the agency requesting the collecting , such as Courts, probation, wo rk release or any other agency that has been authorized by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. B. The DNA Unit will c onfirm the identity of the individual by checking CLETS/KPF to confirm collection is still necessary and have the individual fill out the necessary paperwork on site. 1. The DNA Unit will collect qua lity DNA Buccal Swab samples, a utomated live scan fingerprints, flat palm prints, writer’s palm prints and thumb impressions of individuals who qualify according to Penal Code 296 D. The DNA Unit will control the integrity of the DNA sample, t he fingerprints transmitted to the Depar tment of Justice by live scan, and the information obtained by the KPF, CLETS, DMV and the DATA Works Systems. E. The DNA Unit will properly mail the DNA samples to the Depar tment of Justice’s Richmond Laborat ory in a timely manner. F. The DNA Unit will upd ate the KPF System daily and maintain s tatistics of the functions of the unit in the DNA Data Base for possible fut ure needs by the administration or the agencies requesting collection. IV. Maintenance A. The DNA Unit will maintain a clean working environment. Any equipment should be treated with respect and properly maintained. In the event of equipment malfunction, contact the Manager of the DNA Unit for necessary contact with technicians. B. The DNA Unit will maintain t he proper amount of supplies for DNA collection, identification veri fication and for office use.
