Page 1 of 2 16/17 (New 3/07) Money Booking Procedures The purpose of this General Order i s to describe the procedures for booking money. I. General For the purpose of this Order money is defined as U.S. currency or coin that is spendable and has no value other t han the face value of the cur rency or coin. Negotiable money orders, savi ngs bonds and traveler's checks ar e booked as general property, but may be pl aced in a money/drug safe. II. Procedure A. All money must be listed on a Money Property Receipt/Report or entered in the Automated Field Reporting System (AFR). B. If money was taken from a perso n or during a search warrant, complete a Money Property Receipt/Report, hav e the person sign claiming or waiving claim to the money, and give them the receipt copy. C. Money must be placed in a money envelope. If the money is t oo large or bulky to fit in a money envelope , it must be sealed in an appro priate container (bag or box) with a money envelope attached. D. The money must be counted and witnessed before being placed in a completed preprinted money env elope. All entries on the money envelope must be completed. E. The corresponding it em number from the Money Property Receip t/Report or entered in the AFR shall be clearly visi ble from the outside of the envelope. Only one item number per envelope. F. If the specific money must be preserved as evidence, indicat e “Do Not Deposit” on the face of the envel ope and the Money Property Receipt/Report or entered in the AFR. Otherwise, the currency/ coin will be deposited into the County Treasur y after ten working days. G. Place the money and the Money P roperty Receipt/Report or AFR packing list in a money/drug safe. Both the booking officer and witness ing officer will complete and sign t he safe log entry form. Page 2 of 2 16/17 (New 3/07) III. Collectable or For eign Currency or Coin A. Collectable currency or coin is US currency or coin that has a monetary or historic value above the face v alue of the currency or coin. B. Foreign currency or coin is cu rrency or coin issued by a gov ernment other than the U.S. C. Collectable or foreign curr ency or coin is booked on a gener al Property Receipt/Report or as collectable o r foreign currency in the AFR . If the value appears to be great, it ma y be placed in a money/drug saf e. IV. Contaminated Money A. Money contaminated with biologi cal material/fluids, drugs or other chemicals must be packaged so as to not contaminate other evide nce or personnel. If the money is wet i t should be dried before packa ging. B. The Property Receipt/Report or AFR packing list must state “CONTAMINATED” so that it is readily apparent. C. Contaminated money still needs to be booked as “money” using a Money Property Receipt/Report as outlined in Section I. V. Counterfeit Money Counterfeit money is booked as gener al property NOT on a Money Property Receipt/Report.
