Page 1 of 7 13/03 (REV 6/13) Reserve Deputy Sheriff Uti lization and Employment The purpose of this General Order i s to describe the use of Res erve Deputy Sheriff’s in paid and non-paid assignments. I. Assignments Defined The table below defines the ty pes of assignments a Reserve Depu ty Sheriff may be placed: Assignment Definition Pay Status Long-Term Scheduled temporary assignment to a Deputy Sheriff position within a service area. Paid Short-Term Scheduled assignments made and renewed on a daily basis Paid or Non-Paid Call-Out Typically a one day assignment, made without much notice. Paid or Non-Paid Volunteer Assignmen ts made and renewed on a daily basis Non-Paid II. Ongoing Requirements of Reserve Deputy Sheriffs In order to be placed in an a ssignment within the department, R eserve Deputy Sheriffs must meet several on-going requirements. A. Service Time Requirements are as follows: Level Training I – Designated I – Non-Designated II An average minimum o f sixteen (16) hours of service per month in a calendar year, either paid or volunteer (unpaid) time III An average minimum o f eight (8) hours of volunteer service per month in a calendar year. (Level III Reserve Deputy Sheriffs have no paid positions) B. Firearms Training Requirements are as follows: Page 2 of 7 13/03 (REV 6/13) 1 . Level I (Designated and N on-Designated) and Level II a. Qualify in each bi-annual Fir earms Qualification period per year. b. Failure to qualify will requi re fulfillment of remediation training as specified in Gener al Order 2/02. Failure to complete remediation may re sult in termination from the Reserve Forces. Reserve Deputies who fail to qualify will be suspended from the Reserve program and all “ Off Duty” work assignments until they show proof of qualific ations. Continual failure to qualify may lead to permanen t removal from the Reserve program. c. Non-designated Level I and Level II Reserve Deputy Sheriffs who possess a CCW (Carry Concealed Weapon) Permit m u s t : (1) Renew CCW applic ation process every four (4) years. (2) Qualify bi-annually at t he Sheriff’s Kenneth Royal Range with their concealed w eapon if it is also carried on duty. d . Level III Reserve Deputy Sheriffs who Possess a CCW ( C a r r y C o n c e a l e d W e apon) Permit must: (1) Renew CCW applic ation process every four (4) years. (2) Qualify once yearly dur ing an 832pc course of fire with their concealed weapon. C. CPR Requirements - Per Health and Safety C ode §1797.183 (Title 22), and Penal Code §13518, all Rese rve Deputy Sheriffs are requir ed to have a valid CPR certification. 1 . CPR certification through the Am erican Heart Association is val id f o r t w o ( 2 ) y e a r s f r o m c o m p l e t i o n d a t e . Certificate of completion m u s t b e o n f i l e w i t h t h e V o l u n t e e r S e r v i c e s B u r e a u . 2 . CPR certification through the Tr aining Division is valid for tw o (2) y e a r s f r o m c o m p l e t i o n d a t e . D. First Aid Requirements – Per Health and Safety Code §1797.183 (Title 22), and Penal code §13518, all Rese rve Deputy Sheriffs are r equired to have a valid First Aid certification. Page 3 of 7 13/03 (REV 6/13) 1 . First Aid certification through t he American Red Cross is valid for t h r e e ( 3 ) y e a r s f r o m c o m p l e t i o n d a t e . A copy of the certificate must be on file with the Reserve Of fice at the Special Operations Division/Volunteer Services Bureau. 2 . First Aid certification through t he Training Division is valid for two ( 2 ) y e a r s f r o m c o m p l e t i o n d a t e . E . Continuous Professional Training (CPT) – Like regular Deputy Sheriffs, level I and Level II Reserve Deputy Sheriffs must attend 24 h ours of continuous professional training every two years, as specifie d/required by P.O.S.T. mandates. F . STC Training Requirements – Reserve Deputy Sheriffs assigned to paid positions within a corrections facility (Main Jail, Rio Cosum nes Correctional Center and Work R elease Facility) must satisfy t he requirements for S.T.C. (Standar ds of Training for Correction s) by completing 24 hours of tr aining in 12 months. G . Documentation Required – All Reserve Deputy Sheriffs working in paid positions are
