Work Release Division
Use of County Vehicles
The purpose of this order is to d escribe the process for operat ing and caring for County
vehicles. The proper care and oper ation of any vehicle prolong s its useful life and
reduces overall costs and expense s to the Work Release Division .
Work Release personnel are direc tly accountable for the proper care of vehicles
assigned to the division. I. Accountability
A. Prior to operating any vehicl e assigned to or on loan to the Work Release
Division, the employee will:
1. Visually inspect the vehicle an d report any obvious damage t o a
supervisor.
B. Upon return of vehicle, the employee will: 1. Ensure gas tank is full. 2. Clean interior of vehicle and arrange for washing, if need ed.
3. Report any needed mechanical repairs.
4. Perform post inspection and r eport any obvious damage to a
supervisor.
II. Accident
A. In any event/case an employee is involved in a vehicle accid ent, the
process outlined in General Order 6/04, Report Requirements, sh all be
followed.
B. The Division Commander shall be notified as soon as practica l of any
vehicle accident.
III. Work Project Transportation Vehicles
A. The Work Project Field Coordinator oversees the maintenance and has
the following responsibilities:

Work Release Division 1. Coordinate with County garage regarding service and repair o f
division vehicles. 2. Prepare monthly mileage report on all division vehicles.
B. Home Retention Vehicles 1. Daily retention of Depart ment vehicles requires the approv al of the
Chief Deputy of Corre ctional Services.
2. The Division Commander may a uthorize the overnight use of a
vehicle for a specific, one-time use.
