Robbery
The purpose of this order is to establish the procedures in han dling robbery calls.
I. Dispatch
Communications shall voice br oadcast armed robbery calls and up dates on all
operating channels.
II. Response
Patrol Officers shall:
A. Drive to the scene as quickl y and safely as possible.
B. Coordinate response and a rrival with other units.
C. Be alert for suspicious subjec ts or vehicles in the area.
D. If the suspects have alr eady left, respond one unit to the s cene while the
other assigned units check the area.
III. Arrival At The Scene
Patrol Officers shall:
A. Advise Communications verba lly by radio that the unit has ar rived at the
scene and of any observations made.
B. If it is determined that the suspects have left the scene, o btain and advise
Communications and other respondi ng units of any updates, suspe ct
description, vehicle description , and direction of travel.
C. Consider the use of support units such as the helicopter or a Canine Unit.

IV. Investigation and Reports
A. If the robbery has occurred a t a bank or financial instituti on, refer to the
Operations Order covering Bank Robberies.
B. Secure the scene and check t he area for physical evidence. D etermine if CSI
is needed.
C. Interview the victim and a ll witnesses. Request additional o fficers if the
number of subjects to be interviewed is excessive.
D. Check with pedestrians, nearby b usinesses, residence, and et cetera, for
possible witnesses.
E. Prepare all the necessary reports.
V. Area Searches
A. Assigned officers, other than those taking the report shall conduct an area
search for the suspect.
B. If the suspect is spotted in a certain area, the officer mak ing the discovery
shall set up an enclosing perimet er to contain the suspect. Th e Aero Bureau
and Canine Detail may then be requested to conduct a search, if they are
available.
