Indecent Exposure
The purpose of this order is to outline the procedures for hand ling indecent exposure
calls. I. General
Patrol Officers should be aware o f places in their areas where indecent exposure
crimes may occur: parks, school s, playgrounds and areas where children and
females frequent.
II. Responding to the Scene
A. Attempt to respond to the loca tion in a manner designed to c over possible
escape routes.
B. Be alert for suspicious subjects or vehicles.
C. If enough units are available , one unit should respond to th e scene and
contact the complainant while other units check the area.
III. Arrival at the Scene
A. Contact the victim and ask fo r a description of the suspect, a description of
the suspect's vehicle if any, and the direction of travel of th e suspect.
B. Broadcast the updated information to searching units.
C. If no other units are respondi ng, check the area of the inci dent before taking
the complete report.
D. Do a complete CRIME report on all founded incidents of indecent exposure.
IV. Suspect Apprehension
A. Due to the likelihood that this type of crime may continue, any suspects
arrested under this section are to be booked into the jail so that their
fingerprints and photographs can be obtained.

B. Any suspect arrested for a vi olation of Indecent Exposure sh ould be booked
for a felony if a records check re veals two or more convictions for the same
offense, a prior conviction for a violation of any lewd act on a child or
elder/dependent adult, or if the of fense occurred when the susp ect entered an
inhabited dwelling.
C. When an arrest is not justifi ed, the officer will record the suspects identifying
information and take photographs of the suspect in the field. The report
containing the information and photographs will be forwarded to the Sexual
and Elder Abuse Bureau.
