Review of Written Material
The purpose of the General Order i s to establish a procedure fo r the review of written
material for policy conf licts.
I. Procedures
A. All written material, excl uding criminal reports, bearing ei ther the name of
the Sheriff or identifying logos of this Department shall be re viewed for
policy conformity by the respec tive division commander prior to
dissemination.
B. All articles for publication in journals, magazines, or news papers which
identify the writer as a member of this Department shall be rev iewed by
the writer’s divisi on commander for policy conformity. The divi sion
commander shall defer questionable material to the respective C hief
Deputy for review.
C. After all necessary changes and/or modifications are accompl ished, the
final typed manuscript shall be forw arded via the respective Ch ief Deputy
to the Sheriff for re view prior to submissi on for publication.
D. Nothing in this Order shall be interpreted to prohibit the w riting of material.
The interest is merely to preven t publication of misinformation concerning
departmental policy.
E. This Order does not apply to publications in which the write r specifically
states that the views expressed are personal and/or do not nece ssarily
represent the policy or policies of the Sacrament o County Sheri ff’s
Department.
