Communications Page 1 of 2 6/04.0 (REV 10/98) TRAINING PROGRAM – SUPERVISORY REVIEW The purpose this order is to outline the duties and responsibil ities of the training sergeant and the watch sergeants as it pertains to training. I. General The training sergeant and watch se rgeants shall monitor the pro gress of Sheriff’s Service Representativ es and all dispatcher classification train ees, and the efficiency of the Sheriff’s training officers. II. Responsibilities o f the Training Sergeant A. Monitor each trainee’s progre ss through review of the daily and weekly evaluations. B. Conduct additional documented counseling sessions to assist the trainee with progress when defici encies are recognized. C. Prepare and forward recomm endations and repor ts on trainee p rogress, retention, and terminations to the bureau commander. The bureau commander shall conduct counseli ng sessions regarding terminati on of employment. D. Conduct an exit interview wit h trainees who fail to successf ully complete the training program and make r ecommendations for corrective ac tion and remediation. E. Monitor the performance of the Sheriff’s training officers a s trainers and evaluators: 1. Through review of monthly eval uations prepared by the traini ng officer. 2. Through input from the watch sergeant(s). 3. Through input from the trainees. F. Counsel and confer with the tr aining officers relative to tr aining matters, teaching techniques, and personal performance. Communications Page 2 of 2 6/04.0 (REV 10/98) G. Prepare and forward reco mmendations to the bureau commander relative to training officer perfo rmance and retention. H. Perform additional duties nece ssary for the coordination of the training program. 1. Coordinate and schedule traini ng for the Sheriff’s training officers and trainees. 2. Prepare and disseminate the training officer/trainee assignm ent list to concerned personnel. 3. Schedule training officers for special schools and courses r elative to the program. 4. Evaluate the training progr am and recommend modifications to the bureau commander. III. Responsibilities of the Watch Sergeant A. Directly supervise and monito r the progress of each trainee assigned to their watch through observation and review of daily and weekly evaluations. B. Make recommendations and r eports regarding trainees’ progres s and/or status to the tr aining sergeant. C. Monitor the performance of the Sheriff’s training officers a ssigned to their shift through observation, revie w of written evaluations, and t he prompt and timely completion of evaluations. D. Prepare and forward recomm endations to the training sergeant and the bureau commander relative to the tr aining officers’ performance .
