Confiscation of Concealed Weapons Permits,
Honorary Badges and Identifications
The purpose of this order is to establish policy and procedure relative to the confiscation
of concealed weapon permits, or honorary badges and identificat ions at the time a
prisoner is arrested and booked in to the Sacramento County Jail .
I. Sacramento County
A. All Sacramento Count y Sheriff's honorary identification, bad ges or
concealed weapon permits found in t he possession of an arrestee are to
be confiscated by Field Servi ces personnel at the time of arres t. These
items are to be forwarded to the Special Investigations Bureau
Commander. The arresting officer shall confiscate any firearm in the
possession of the arrestee and book it for safekeeping.
1. For the purposes of this order an arrest means any time a pe rson is
taken into physical custody or issued a misdemeanor citation.
2. Minor traffic citations will generally not be a means to con fiscate
concealed weapon permits, or honor ary badges and identification s.
These situations are to be evaluat ed on a case-by-case basis an d
will require a field supervisor’s approval.
B. An on duty Field Services s ergeant or watch commander will b e informed
of the circumstances of the cont act and confiscation as soon as possible.
C. A copy of the Crime Report o r an Incident/Information Report detailing the
facts will be sent to the Special Investigations Bureau Command er.
D. The Sheriff upon recommendation by the Special Investigation s Bureau
will determine final disposition as to the loss of privileges o n carrying a
badge, identification or concealed weapon permit.
II. Outside Law Enforcement Agencies
A. Honorary identification, badges or concealed weapon permits issued by
other law enforcement agencies shall not be confiscated.

safekeeping.
C. A copy of the Crime Report or Incident/Information Report wi ll be
forwarded to the Special Invest igations Bureau Commander, along with an
inter-department correspondence not ing the items in possession of the
arrestee and what was confiscated . The Special Investigations Bureau
will forward a copy of the arre st report to the issuing agency.
D. An on duty Field Services s ergeant or watch commander will b e informed
of the circumstance of the cont act and confiscation as soon as possible.
