Narcotic Investigations Division Call-Out Procedures and
Responsibilities
Purpose of the
Order The purpose of this Operations O rder is to insure that adequate personnel
are available for emergency cal l-outs and other requests for as sistance and
timely call-out procedures for pe rsonnel assigned to the Narcot ic
Investi gations Division.
General policy The following list describes the general call-out policy for th e Narcotics
Investigations Division.
A. Deputy Sheriffs assigned to the N arcotic Investigations Divisio n are
subject to call-out 24-hours a day as a condition of their assi gnment.
B. To facilitate timely call-outs, and minimize inconvenience to t he officer,
personnel assigned to the Narcotic s Investigations Division are issued
pagers, cellular tele phones and home retention vehicles.
Officer’s
responsibilities The following list describes the officer’s responsibilities reg arding call-out
procedures.
A. It shall be the officer’s respons ibility to notify his/her supe rvisor of any
circumstances that could preven t the officer from responding, o r
significantly delay the officer’s response to a call-out.
B. It shall be the officer’s responsib ility to carry his/her pager and cell
phone with them and respond to all pages from the Narcotics
Investigations Division, Communi cations Center and all departme ntal
supervisors and manager s as soon as practical.
C. It is recognized that officers ut ilize their pagers for investi gative
purposes and receive numerous pa ges from a variety of sources.
a. However, officers should be familiar with departmental
telephone numbers so that the y will be easily distinguished
when a page is received.
D. If an officer receives a page fr om the department, or a departm ent
supervisor with a “911” behind t he phone number, the officer sh all
return the call as soon as possible or within ten (10) minutes.

Supervisor’s
responsibilities The following list describes supe rvisor’s respons ibilities rega rding call-out
procedures.
A. Supervisors shall r ecognize the added str ess and inconvenience that call-
outs have on their personnel and a ttempt to minimize such affec t
wherever possible.
B. Supervisors shall maintain acc ountability of their subordinates .
C. They shall schedule time off appr opriately weighing the needs o f the
Department as well as the needs of the employee.
D. When paging an employee, the super visor shall page the employee
twice and then telephone t he officer’s residence.
E. Supervisors shall refrain fr om using a “911" when paging an off icer
unless it is truly an emergency or critical that the supervisor contact the
officer.
Call-out
procedure The following list describes the Narcotics Investigations Divis ion’s call-out
procedure.
A. The Communications Center maintains a call-out list sent to the m by the
Narcotics Investigations Division.
B. This list includes two (2) D etectives and a Supervisor.
C. The Detectives and Supervisor are on-call for two (2) weeks at a time.
D. The Detectives assigned rotate between the narcotic investigati ve teams.
a. The Communications Sergean t shall then not ify one of the
Detectives assigned on-call.
b. If additional Detectives are required, the assigned call-out
Detectives will notify the on-call Supervisor.
E. In some instances, personnel from other divisions and agencies may
contact an individual officer , bypassing the Communications Cen ter.
F. It shall be the responsibility of the officer to immediately no tify his/her
supervisor of the incident if a dditional assistance is necessar y.
G. The supervisor will determine th e number of officers needed bef ore call-
out and which officers will be made available.
