Detective Division Page 1 of 3 4/08.0 (REV 11/94) WANTED PERSONS BULLETINS The purpose of this order is to outline the procedure for prepa ring, issuing, and cancelling wanted persons bulletins. I. Types of Wanted Persons Bulletins A. Probable cause to arrest 1. Bulletins issued on probable ca use to arrest fo r a felony wh ere imminent danger to the public or prope rty exists expire 30 days after issuance unless a warrant is requested. B. Warrant 1. Where reasonable du e diligence has been expended to locate t he suspect on an existing felony wa rrant, bulletins remain active until cancelled. C. Escape 1. When there has been an escape of a person confined to a pena l institution, bulletins remai n active until cancelled. II. Wanted Persons Bulletins Shall Only Be Issued When: A. The crime is a felony; and B. There is a known suspect; and C. A crime report is on file in Records, or in the case of an e scape, is being prepared. III. Initiating and Appr oving Responsibility A. Officers desiring issuance o f a bulletin shall prepare the b ulletin and forward it to the Warrant/Fugi tive Bureau commander for approva l. B. The Warrant/Fugitive Bureau is responsible for distribution of wanted persons bulletins. Detective Division Page 2 of 3 4/08.0 (REV 11/94) IV. Distribution A. Communications C enter ....................... 2 copies 9. Main Ja il ............................................... 2 copies 10. RCCC ................................................... 2 copies 11. Surrounding Agenc ies ........................ 21 copies V. Filing System/C ontrol Numbers A. A file control book shall be ma intained by the Fugitive Deta il for each type of wanted persons bulletin. B. Each bulletin s hall be logged in the f ile book and the corre sponding number shall be affixed to the bulletin. VI. Bulletin Cancellation A. The initiating detail superv isor shall periodically review t he bulletins requested to determine the need for updating or cancellation. B. The Warrant/Fugitive Bureau sh all be advised of all cancella tion requests. C. To cancel a bulletin, t he Fugitive Detail shall: 1. Enter the cancella tion in the log book. 2. Stamp the original bulletin “Cancelled” and list the reason. Detective Division Page 3 of 3 4/08.0 (REV 11/94) 3. Distribute one copy only of the cancellation to department d ivisions on the distribution list. 4. Agencies other than the departm ent shall be notified of the cancellation by mail.
