Identification Bur eau Page 1 of 2 4 /05.0 (REV 1/07) Evidence Processing of Recovered Vehicles The purpose of this Order is to e stablish the criteria and resp onsibility for the evidence processing of recovered vehicl es associated with a crime. I. General Crime Scene Investigation Officers will process recovered vehic les for evidence when the vehicle was reported th rough the Sacram ento County She riff Department and recovered in Sacra mento County, with the followi ng exceptions: A. The vehicle was reported as a stolen vehicle only, with no o ther felony crimes included: 1. Vehicles reported as PC 496, w here the vehicle is the only s tolen property, will not be processed. B. The vehicle has been totally burned, stripped, or has been e xposed to the elements for a considerable lengt h of time and no value would b e gained from follow-up. C. The vehicle was reported th rough an outside agency, but reco vered by the Sacramento County Sheriff Department. 1. If the vehicle was repor ted through an outside agency and recovered by the Sacramento C ounty Sheriff Department, but the distance is too great to practica lly have the outside jurisdict ion respond, a Crime Scene Investi gator may handle the follow-up upon request of the outsi de agency and approval of an Identification Bu reau Supervisor. D. The vehicle was reported thr ough the Sacrament o County Sheri ff Department but recover ed by an outside agency in a jurisdiction where the distance is too far away to pract ically have a Crime Scene Inve stigation Officer respond. II. Criteria for Vehi cles processed by Crime Scene Investigatio n Officers A. All felony crimes that hav e been committed with the vehicle, such as a homicide, robbery or a sexual assault. All felony crimes where a Sa cramento County Sheriff Detectiv e makes a request by placing a “Hold for Pr ints” card on the vehicle.
