SPECIAL CRIME BULLETINS
The purpose of this order is to establish the procedures for in itiating and distributing
special crime bulletins. I. Special Crime Bulletins [7461 Form 011, Rev 1/83]
A. Criteria for preparation:
1. Crimes or a series of crimes of violence. 2. Crimes or a series of crimes involving a substantial loss of property.
3. No known suspect.
B. Supervisor’s responsibilities shall be to:
1. Review and approv e all Special Cr ime Bulletins.
2. Make distribution in a ccordance with paragraph D.
3. Maintain a file on all bulle tins distributed by the Bureau.
C. Bulletin format

E. Cancellation of Bulletin: 1. At the bottom of the bulletin , there must be a sentence tha t states,
“ This bulletin will be automati cally cancelled on_____________ ”
(the date should be 60 days from the origi nating date which i s typed
at the top of the bulletin).

2. Just prior to the cancella tion date shown on the bulletin, the Bureau
secretary should contact the detective who issued the bulleti n and
ascertain if the bulletin is s till active. If the bulletin is active, the
secretary will reissue the bul letin with the new cancellation date
(again 60 days in the future), but will maintain the original issue
date at the top of the bulletin.
3. With a cancellation date at the bottom of the bulletin, pa trol officers
s hould be able to ascertain whether or not the bulletin is still active
o r s hould be cancelled at a certain time.
4. If, between the times of i ssuance and the date of cancellati on, the
bulletin should be cancelle d for any reason, the detective
responsible for the information shall notify the Bureau secret ary and
advise that individual to cancel the bulletin.
5. The Bureau secretary will stam p the bulletin with the large CANCEL
stamp, make the appropriate num ber of copies, make contact at the
Patrol Division nearest their lo cation, remove the bulletins f rom the
stands and replace them with t he cancelled copies, and place a
cancelled copy in the briefing file on the Patrol briefing pod ium.
6. The copies of the cancelled or reissued bulletins issued by South
Station secretaries should be sent to one of the Detective Div ision
secretaries at the North Stat ion and that individual will make the
needed switch of bulletins at the North Station.
7. The copies of the cancelled or reissued bulletins issued by North
Station secretaries should be sent to one of the Detective Div ision
secretaries at the South Stat ion and that individual will make the
needed switch of bulletins at the South Station.
