Training Page 1 of 2 4/02.0 (REV 3/91) ASSISTANT RANGEMAS TER (TRAINING) The purpose of this order is to d escribe the duties of Assistan t Rangemaster (Training). I. General The Assistant Rangemaster (Trai ning) works under the direct sup ervision of the Rangemaster. II. Training A. Provide firearms training to in-service personnel, academy s tudents, and outside agency personnel in the following areas: 1. Basic firearms training. 2. Firearms safety. 3. Firearms maintenance. 4. Chemical agents. 5. Specialized weapons use. B. Assist the Rangemaster in formu lating and implementing train ing programs in the following areas: 1. Basic academy course. 2. In-service training. 3. Mandatory qual ification. 4. Specialized weapons use. III. Tri-Annual Qualification A. Qualifies officers during eac h trimester qualification perio d. 1. Supervise, score, and evaluate o fficers as they complete the course of fire. Training Page 2 of 2 4/02.0 (REV 3/91) 2. Critique officers and offer on- the-spot correction to remedy any deficiencies. 3. Record each officer’s score. IV. Weapons Maintenance A. Maintain a worki ng knowledge of firearms and ammunition tech nology. B. Conduct safety checks and r epairs for department-owned firea rms. V. Range Maintenance A. Assist with Range maintenance. 1. Supervise inmate work crews when required. 2. Assist with the design and bui lding of new courses of fire. B. Coordinate the acquisition o f new materials and supplies. VI. Recordkeeping A. Record the issue of firearms to department personnel. B. Assist in conducting weapons inv entory at the direction of t he Rangemaster.
