Field Services Page 1 of 2 04/01 (REV 1/04) Radio Procedures The purpose of this order is to outline the procedures for usin g the Sheriff's Department radio system. I. General The Sheriff's Department is a me mber of the Sacramento Regional Radio Communications System. The radi o system has several frequencie s assigned by the FCC. The radio system has the ability to interoperate wi th many different agencies through the trunked 800 MHz equipment. II. Procedure and Demeanor A. Any person using the radio shall maintain professional disci pline. The transmissions are to be brief and to the point. The use of prof ane language or risqué comm ents is forbidden. B. Radio and MDT terminal transmissions between Field Services officers and Communications Bureau personnel are to be limited to calls- for- service and business-relat ed information inquiries. C. Officers shall not argue with or criticize Communications Bu reau personnel on the radio system. Offi cers with complaints about d ispatched calls or how a situation was hand led shall contact and advise t heir field supervisor. The supervisor shall contact the communications bu reau sergeant and attempt to resolve the situation if necessary. D. Officers shall advise the di spatcher whenever they are leavi ng their primary dispatch talk group fo r another secondary talk group. Officers shall also advise the dispatc her when they return to their prim ary dispatch channel. Field Services Page 2 of 2 04/01 (REV 1/04) E. Dispatchers cannot move to another talk group and still safe ly copy transmissions to their primary channel. For safety reasons, of ficers shall not ask a dispatcher for cont act on another channel. The offic er may request through the dispatcher tha t the Communications Center s ergeant contact the officer on another channel. III. Use of the Channel Marker (Beeper Tone) The channel marker is initiated by the dispatcher or requested by an officer during emergency situations. Offi cers shall monitor the radio prior to transmitting to ensure that the channel marke r tone is not on and that non-e mergency traffic is permitted. IV. Transporting Persons When an officer transports any per son to another location, he/s he should advise the dispatcher, either by voice radio or adminis trative message . A. Beginning Mileage B.
