Detective Division Page 1 of 2 4/01.0 (REV 1/90) REQUESTING NEW REPORT NUMBERS The purpose of this order is to o utline procedures for requesti ng report numbers prior to the report being submitted to the Records Bureau. I. New Report Numbers Officers shall routinely reques t new report numbers prior to s ubmitting the report to the Records Bureau in the following instances: A. Officers investigating armed robberies, grand theft auto cas es, stolen license plates (with identifiable suspect), and stolen vessel c ases, shall make the request through the Communi cations Center, supplying t he following information: 1. Armed Robberies: Type of cri me, victim’s name, address of occurrence, name of arrestee (i f applicable), and name and badg e number of officer handling the report. 2. Grand Theft Auto: Type of cri me, victim’s name, address of occurrence, license and/or VIN, n ame of arrestee (if applicable ), and name and badge number of offi cer handling the report. 3. Stolen License Plates: Type of crime, victim’s name, address of occurrence, license plate number , name of arrestee (if applicab le), and name and badge number of offi cer handling the report. 4. Stolen Vessel: Type of crime , victim’s name, address of occurrence, vessel number, name of arrestee (if applicable), an d name and badge number of offic er handling the report. B. The report number given by Co mmunications Center personnel s hall be recorded by the officer in t he upper right corner of each page of the report. C. Report Numbers: In case s of armed robbery where all suspects are in custody, contact the Records Bureau for a report number. Detective Division Page 2 of 2 4/01.0 (REV 1/90) D. Officers investigating homi cides, inmate deaths, and escapes shall request new report numbers by tel ephone from the Records Bureau . 1. The officer shall supply t he following information: type of crime, victim’s name and address of occ urrence, arrestee’s name (if applicable), and the name and badge number of officer handling the report. 2. The officer shall enter the report number on each page of th e report in the upper right corner. E. Officers shall request report num bers for all North Station reports prior to submitting them to the Records Bureau
