BOOKING PROCEDURES
The purpose of this order is to establish the procedures for bo oking adult prisoners at
the Sacramento Count y jail facilities.
I. RCCC and WDF
The Rio Cosumnes Correctional Cent er and the Women’s Detention Facility on
Bruceville Road will accept thos e adult prisoners arrested for felonies who must
appear in the Sacramento Munici pal Court, and for misdemeanors who must
appear in the Sacrament o Municipal Court, Elk Grove Municipal C ourt, Galt
Municipal Court, or Walnut Grov e-Isleton Municipal Court.
In addition, all persons booked fo r a parole violation (Section s 3056 or 3151 PC;
Sections 11751 H&S; or 1767.3 W& I) shall be booked at RCCC or W DF.
A. Females
1. The arresting officer shall drive to the sally port area at the
Women’s Detention Facility; leav e the prisoner in the vehicle, and
deposit his/her weapon inside the electronically locked first
vestibule at the office rs’ entrance of WDF.
2. The officer shall move the pr isoner into the vestibule area and await
search by a WDF officer. The WD F officer will proceed to female
booking and deposit property and/ or monies and the arrest sheet or
other paperwork.
B. Males
1. The arresting officer shall drive to the sally port area of men’s
booking; deposit his/her weapon in the lockers located on the
outside east wall of male booking.
2. The arresting officer shall take the prisoner to male bookin g.
3. The arresting officer shall thoroughly search the prisoner, removing
all valuables including jewelry , money, weapons, etc., and pass the
items through the window to the b ooking officer who shall inven tory
those items in the presence of the arresting officer.

a. Items considered offensive weapons, but too large to be
retained by the jail such as ax es, baseball bats, crowbars,
etc., shall be retained by the a rresting officer to be booked
for safekeeping with the Sh eriff’s Property Section.
b. The arresting officer sha ll conduct a thorough search for an y
offensive weapons to ensure that the lives of jail officers or prisoners are not endangered.
4. The arresting officer shall place the prisoner in a holding cell.
5. After the booking officer comp letes the personal property in ventory,
the booking officer and the prisoner shall sign the form.
6. The arresting officer shall retrieve and load his/her weapon before
leaving the jail.
II. Main Jail
A. All adult felons and misdemeana nts other than those specifie d above shall
be booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail
1. Prior to entering the Main J ail facility, officers shall sec ure their
weapons in the trunks o f their County vehicles.
B. Arresting officers shall subm it a completed arrest report to the booking
officer with the prisoner.
C. Females and Males
1. Give the completed arres t report to the booking officer.
2. Thoroughly search the prisoner r emoving all valuables includ ing
jewelry, money, weapons, etc. (f emales will be searched by a
female jail officer).
3. The arresting officer sha ll conduct a thorough search for an y
offensive weapons to ensure that the lives of jail officers and
prisoners are not endangered.
4. Items considered offensive w eapons but too large to be retai ned by
the jail such as axes, baseball bats, crowbars, etc., shall be
retained by the arresting office r and booked for safekeeping wi th
the Sheriff’s Property Section.

5. Pass all property except cloth ing, plus the completed Proper ty and
Clothing record through the window to the booking officer who s hall
re-inventory the property in the presence of the arresting offi cer.
6. After the booking officer comp letes the personal property in ventory,
the booking officer and the prisoner shall sign the form.
7. The prisoner shall then be placed in the holding cell.
