IN-SERVICE TRAINING F OR RESERVE OFFICERS
The purpose of this order is to d escribe the in-service trainin g program administered by
the division of Training and Reserve Forces. I. Policy
A. It shall be the policy of the division of Training and Reser ve Forces to
provide instruction with suffici ent regularity to ensure all re serve officers
have ample opportunity to maintain a level of proficiency comme nsurate
with department policy and POST requirements.
B. Training will be scheduled in a manner which will facilitat e compliance
with Section 13518 PC, Section 217 H&S, and departmental Genera l
Orders.
II. Training
A. In-service training will be conducted in the following categ ories:
1. First aid refresher training will be required every two year s.
2. CPR refresher will be required annually.
3. Weapons qualificati on will be required by each officer with an
approved duty sidearm on a tri-annual basis. Shotgun
familiarization also is required.
B. Additional training requirem ents may be established by the T raining and
Reserve Forces division commander.
III. Notification
A. The reserve forces adminis trative bureau commander shall pro vide all
other reserve forces commanders wit h a roster of officers’ requ ired
training.
B. It shall be the responsibility of each officer to report for training as
directed.

C. Failure to maintain current t raining levels may result in th e suspension of
peace officer powers until minimu m standards are achieved. Cont inued
violations of training policies may result in termination from the reserve
forces.
